My Most Recent Trip to Colombia

Hi again! And welcome to a new day, a new blog post. If you missed my last post, I’ve started a new series, #AWeekInBeauty, where I will be compiling makeup releases, favorite Instagram accounts, and favorite blog posts each week. Make sure you check it out! Want to learn about Colombia? Keep reading.

This summer I took a tiny break from blogging because I spent it back home in Colombia. Colombia is a beautiful country in South America filled with amazing people, great food, and an inspiring culture. I usually go home every break, but I spend it at home with my family. This summer, I actually did a tiny bit of traveling and visited places I hadn’t been to in a while.

I started the trip in Bogota, the capital, known for its London-esque weather. One of the downsides of Bogota is the high level of pollution, but it is such a big city, there’s a little bit for everyone.

Some great places to visit in Bogota are,

  • Museo del Oro (Gold Museum)
  • Plaza de Bolivar (Bolivar Square)
  • Museo de la Independencia (Independence Museum)
  • Monserrate

Villa de Leyva

We then visited Villa de Leyva, a beautiful town where most buildings are white, there are cobbled streets, and a huge town square. They hold a beautiful kite festival in August in the town square, it is extremely popular, and a great experience. Towns like Villa de Leyva have grown in popularity, especially among foreign tourists which is great, but it does mean it has gotten a bit more expensive than other Colombian destinations.

Salento is the place you need to visit if you love handmade products – they have everything from jewelry, to homeware, to clothing, you’ll be able to find a variety of stores and products to fill your home with beautiful Colombian artesanias.

Before any trip, I like to go on Instagram and look at the hashtags of each city/place to find new places that aren’t the stereotypical tourist sites. I would highly recommend doing this if you’re going somewhere soon. You can also look for travel bloggers, or bloggers based on that city, try to contact them and ask them for their top list of places to visit, they might even offer to be your tour guide.
