I believe taking care of my hair is just as important as taking care of my skin. Yes, I have dyed my hair multiple times before, not all of it, but since I was about 15 I’ve had highlights and I recently got a balayage, and when you do these things your hair gets fragile and it’s necessary to take even more care of it than before. In the picture above are the shampoo/conditioners I am currently using. I tend to change shampoo a lot – sometimes I don’t even make it through a bottle (don’t worry, I don’t throw it away, I just put it away and reuse later), because I feel like hair gets used to the effects of the product and it becomes less effective. Sooo this list changes a lot, but this is what I am currently using.
I have had a hard time loving OGX Shampoos. I get some dandruff here and there – not too much and nothing noticeable – and when I’m using other types of shampoos I don’t notice it as much. I’m not sure if it’s the sulfate in other shampoos or what it is about these ones, but it always comes back when I use OGX. I still love this shampoo and conditioner, the smell is amazing and it reminds me of vacationing at the beach. The product has coconut milk, coconut oil, and ultra whipped egg white proteins, and I think they really help keep my hair healthy.
One word: Amazing. Because my natural hair color is brown, and I’ve gotten a blonde-ashy balayage, I need a product that helps me prevent the yellowness that can happen weeks after a dyeing session. The bottle reads, “Color-enhancing shampoo brightens & refreshes blonde, highlighted, and silver hair,” and it does just that. I don’t use it very often, only once every couple of weeks, and when I do, I leave it on for about two minutes – just as you would leave the conditioner on when you’re showering.
These are other products I use to keep my hair healthy and to style sometimes. The most important one is OGX healing + vitamin E hydrating oil. I have been using this non-stop for the last couple of months. I apply a couple of drops to my hands, rub them together, and then start by applying it to the ends of my hair since this is the most damaged area and continue applying towards my roots. I don’t focus too much time on the roots because I don’t want my hair to go oily. The second oil I use is Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil. I first got this as a sample in my Birchbox subscription and LOVED it. I’m not sure what it is, but if I apply this on wet hair and let it air dry, or if I blow dry my hair, or straighten it, this product makes my hair feel so soft and smooth.
Dry shampoo is still a little bit of a mystery to me. I grew up washing my hair every single day. Still, to this day, the mornings when I don’t wash my hair I feel like I haven’t woken up yet. When I purchased the invisible oil, I looked into some other bumble and bumble products, and Pret-a-Powder had amazing reviews. It’s a texturizing dry shampoo and I love it. It adds texture and volume to my hair and also absorbs all the dirtiness and oiliness.
Last but not least, I also got this in my Birchbox, amika Bombshell Blowout Spray. I usually don’t blow dry my hair, whenever I do, it feels puffy and I hate it. Does anyone else have that feeling? So if I’m going to style my hair, I let it air dry and then I straighten or I curl it. The last time I dried my hair, I use both the Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil and amika’s Bombshell Blowout Spray. WOW. I don’t know which one it was or if it was teamwork, but I’ve never loved the feeling of my hair after blow drying so much until now.
Do you use any of these to take care of your hair? I am currently running out of my OGX Shampoo/Conditioner so if you have any recommendations, please leave a comment and don’t forget to like this post!
