October Play! by Sephora – Monthly Beauty Unboxing

Hola holaaa. It is time for a new Play! by Sephora unboxing. I stopped the service for a couple of months while I was in Colombia, but I started again as soon as I was back in the U.S. If you’re unfamiliar with Play! by Sephora, it is a monthly subscription service, it costs $10 a month, and you receive five beauty samples plus a perfume sample. You always get a perfume sample, and it is not counted as one of the five beauty samples so in total you always receive six products in your box. What I like about this box is that the brands are ones you find in stores at Sephora, so it’s a great way to try out products/brands that are easily available at Sephora or Sephora.com.

This month’s theme is Complexion Companions – products that create the perfect base for makeup. Before I got my box, I started snooping in the #sephoraplay Instagram hashtag to see what others had received and I was really excited. There were amazing brands featured, and I couldn’t wait to get mine.

The first product is the Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion Primer. This primer is “a smoothing, pore-perfecting cream primer that blurs imperfections and fills in lines for a baby-soft foundation-ready canvas and makeup that stays put all day long.” So far, my experience with primers is very limited. Most of the ones I’ve tried (which I most likely received as samples), were silicone based and I hated the feeling on my skin. A couple of months ago, I decided to try the Too Faced Hangover Primer and I love it. It feels so refreshing, and I can’t wait to give this primer a fair go.

Make Up For Ever Ulta HD Invisible Cover Foundation is a cult favorite. It has been raved about countless times, and I was happy to find out it was going to be in my box. The sample size is perfect to try foundation multiple times, as is the size of all the samples this month. I received the shade Y245 (Soft Sand), and I think this is a close match to my skin tone. Have you tried this foundation yet? Please let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

The next sample is the cutest thing ever. It is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Skin Booster. The packaging of this sample is adorable and I don’t want to use it. This is supposed to be “a skin-perfecting serum that plums, smooths, and hydrates your skin for flawless makeup application.” I haven’t had the best experience with serums. I haven’t tried anything that made a substantial difference in my skin so I usually skip serum in my skincare routine.

To set, the box came with the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea 4-in-1 Setting Mist. My current setting spray is the Milani Make it Last and I look forward to seeing how this compares. This spray is supposed to prime, set, hydrate and refresh the skin depending on how it’s used. I think because of the size, I will be keeping it in my school bag. It is perfect to apply throughout the day and keep my makeup looking fresh.

To exfoliate, the box came with the Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Scrub. The website says this is good for Oily, Normal and Combination skin. Because I have dry skin so I am not sure how it will be on my skin. The black version – Microdermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator, which is labeled to be good for dry skin, was great.

The perfume sample in this month’s box was the Tory Burch Bel Azur.
