My April Favorites

Another month gone by. This is crazy. How is it May already? Am I the only one who feels this way? Wasn’t it Christmas just a couple of weeks ago? I hope the first four months of 2017 have gone smoothly for you, and you’ve done all sorts of new and fun things.

One of my goals this year is to try different beauty products and kind of step out of the comfort zone. To do this, you don’t really need to splurge, by stepping out of my comfort zone I mean trying type of products I’ve never tried before. For example, I used to hate foundation and hate the feeling of product on my face, but I’ve found that there are light-coverage foundations or CC creams that I really like. Always remember, if you’re in the U.S., pretty much every place has a really flexible return policy if you keep your receipt. So do not fear buying a ton of products and ending up with a collection of products you don’t like.

This month’s favorites are not too crazy, just a little bit of variety as far as they’re not all for the same part of my face.

1. Hourglass Lighting Powder in Luminous Light

Zoella has raved about this product multiple times and I was dying to try it out. They always have the travel size version in the checkout lines at Sephora so I swatched it once and it was the softest thing I have ever touched and I knew I needed to have it. Finally, when the Sephora VIB Sale happened, I knew it was my time to try it out. I LOVE THIS THING! You know, it gives my face a healthy glow and since it’s so light, I don’t get a cakey feeling (i have dry skin some powder products don’t always sit well and this actually happened first with the Laura Mercier powder). They have different shades that not 100% sure what they would look like, as I don’t think there’s a big color payoff.

2. Colourpop Double Play Pressed Powder Blush & Highlighter Duo

This product confused me at first, as I had no idea the blush was a blush and I thought it was a bronzer. Don’t worry, I realized the first time I used it and it did not look good. At all. Works way better as a blush! I have actually been pairing it with NARS’ Orgasm – applying Orgasm to the apple of my cheeks and using the Colourpop blush in the rest of the blush area (… does this have a name… HELP!). The highlighter is also amazing and I get compliments on it all the time.

3. Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream

I received this product in my last PLAY! by Sephora box and I love it. I have never used a high-end moisturizer since drugstore products really are enough. Honestly, up to this point I didn’t think my skin could get butter and that the dryness I had was just normal and perhaps a result of the makeup, but this has made me realize that it can better. Never settle and know that there is a product out there that can make your skin feel so much better than it currently does. It’s possible.

4. Tarteist Double Take Eyeliner

The first time I saw this was on Tarte’s Instagram story (and I know that products work and look a lot better when the company is promoting them,) but it looked so pigmented in the waterline and it looked like such a smooth application I decided to try it out when Tarte had it’s friends and family discount. So far so good. I’m still not a pro at the winged eyeliner thing so I don’t think the product should be judged based on that. The pencil part is really good and I use it to tightline.

5. MAC Next To Nothing Face Color

MAC did the perfect advertising for this product, it targeted girls like me who don’t love high-coverage foundation but just wanna look pretty in pictures. I remember reading this Elite Daily article that said, “will make your skin look like an Instagram filter come to life, #nofilter needed,” and I was sold! And I am happy they lured me into buying it. It does what it says it does so if you’re looking for a high-coverage foundation, this is not for you. It is buildable, not much, but it could be built up if needed in certain areas.

6. Capture Your Style by Aimee Song

If you haven’t seen this book as a prop in numerous Instagram posts – You can click here to open an Instagram account. I was curious about what the rave was and finally got it. The book is a guide to Instagram, it goes over do’s and don’t’s, photo editing apps, strategy, audience, etc. Using Instagram as a platform to share my likes and dislikes, I think it’s easy to obsess over the numbers and forget that the whole point is for you to share the things that you like, moments of happiness, and have a place where I can have it all in one and this book reminded me of that. I’m not saying it will reveal the secrets to having a hugely successful Instagram account, but it does give great tips and tricks on how to improve your grid.

I’d love to know your favorites this month so please share them with me!
