I started watching Kathleen Lights videos on YouTube last year. Her videos are so great. I love how she does her own thing and doesn’t try to do what everyone else is doing. If you haven’t checked out her channel, I recommend you do! In 2017, she launched her own brand of nail polishes. She has done makeup collaborations with other makeup brands, but this nail polish brand is all hers. I first tried them towards the end of last year, and I have been obsessed ever since. I have recommended them to everyone. Keep reading if you want to know why I love KL Polish so much!
KL Polish is cruelty-free, vegan, 5-free, and made in the U.S.A. The nail polishes are 5-free which means they don’t contain the following ingredients: formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, dibutyl phthalate, and toluene. The FAQs section on their website is not very clear. They say all nail polishes are 5-free, but then they also say all nail polishes are 7-free and 9-free.
Most KL polishes are permanent. I believe only Kathleen’s birthday nail polish is limited edition. The only issue with this is that a lot of the nail polishes are constantly out of stock. They’ve explained this on their Instagram before, but for some reason, it is hard for them to have them in stock all the time. There will be a BIG restock in March/April so make sure you pay attention to their social media! Instagram and Twitter are where they make the big announcements.
There is usually a big release for each of the seasons. Then there are a couple of odd nail polishes released individually. I think there is a little bit of everything for everyone. There’s everything from your standard reds to more out-there shades like neon pink and a glittery blue. I do think the collections align with the season in which they’re released.
Lips + Tips Collection
The ones that caught my attention and my first purchase were part of the Lips + Tips collection. Because of Kathleen’s partnership with Colourpop, she decided to release nail polishes that matched her Colourpop lipsticks. The collection includes,
- Aquarius – soft pinky nude
- Taurus – mid-tone yellow-brown
- Lumiere – dusty mauve pink
- Alyssa – muted pink
- Point Zero – cool-toned grey-brown
- November – warm peachy pink
The only shade of this collection I do not own is Taurus. Taurus is a mid-tone yellow-brown and I am just not attracted to it. I couldn’t see myself wearing it. The other shades are all very nude-y. They look beautiful on, and I think they look extremely flattering on everyone. On the KL Polish website, you can actually see the polishes on three different skin tones. From this collection, my favorites are Point Zero and Lumiere. I love the Lumiere Lippie Stix and love wearing them together.
Black & White
I am a huge fan of white nail polish and KL Polish released their shade of white during Christmas. They had an off-white shade called Coconut Milk, but I wanted an opaque white. Along with Paper Snow, they released Tuxedo Mask, a black nail polish. I used to be really into black nail polish when I was younger, and what better time to go back to it than a KL Polish release. I love these! They are good to go with two layers and they look beautiful.
My favorite thing about KL Polish is the brush. At first, I thought it was too big and it was going to make the application a lot harder. It has turned out to be the complete opposite. The brush makes it so easy to cover your nail. It thins out at the edges, so it gets in really well to the sides of your nail without staining your finger.
If you do your nails at home, I definitely recommend you check these out! I have tried a lot of nail polish brands, and none has been as easy as this one. I love the quality of the nail polishes, how well they last, and how good they look. If you’re in the market for a new nail polish, keep an eye out on the KL Polish website for their big restock in March/April. There are still a lot of shades available. Let me know how you make your manicure experience at home easier! I’d love to know any tips you have.
