e.l.f. Poreless Primer vs. e.l.f. Hydrating Primer

Hello everyone!! e.l.f. has really been stepping up their game lately in both makeup and skin care. I read on a Buzzfeed post I think someone raving about the Poreless Face Primer a while ago and decided to try it out for myself. I am not a primer expert and I don’t really understand the concept too much, I haven’t really liked most of the primers I’ve tried so I end up using other types of products as primers, like Josie Maran’s Finishing Balm. I do have what I think are pretty prominent pores, but I also have dry skin and those two things together don’t always work great as most poreless products are not really hydrating.

By just feeling the Poreless Primer in my fingers I knew I wasn’t going to like it. The texture was very much like silicone and it reminded me of Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. I have gotten millions of samples of this in beauty subscriptions and I really don’t see what people like about this. I hate it. And the e.l.f. Poreless Primer reminds me of it. The texture is really like melted plastic and I hate it. After I put it on my face, it feels dirty and I hate it.

A couple of months later, I saw an Instagram post of someone using both the Hydrating Primer and the Poreless Primer, and I thought hmmm maybe I should try this! So a couple of days ago, I went to the store and got the Hydrating Primer. The first test, was my fingers…. and it was the exact same siliconey feeling as the Poreless Primer. I was very disappointed. I properly tried it out later and honestly, I noticed no difference between the two.

Please know I am not saying these are bad products, they’re just not the products for me. The Hydrating Primer I really don’t think is hydrating at all, but it might work for someone else. e.l.f. has other amazing products, the Bubble Mask they recently launched is amazing and I was obsessed with their blush and bronzer duo. They’re super affordable and if you’re just getting into makeup, I think e.l.f. is a great place to start!
