With a new year comes new opportunities to try makeup. I’ve recently picked up some drugstore products that I’ve been loving! If you are anything like me, you hate shopping at the drugstore. There are no testers, returning products seems a bit harder, and usually there’s no one to assist you. For me, finding drugstore products that I love feels like an accomplishment. I thought I’d share them with you and maybe they will be some you try in the new year!
I can’t remember where I first saw this, but then I felt like it was everywhere. I do remember KathleenLights talking about it. She has dry skin like I do, and I had been on the market for a less dewy foundation so this seemed like the perfect option. There are actually 40 shades available of this foundation which I think it’s amazing for drugstore products. It might be hard to find all shades at your local store, but make sure you check out their website. I definitely recommend testing out the shade at the store first, finding similar ones, or the closest one, and then going to their website and see if there’s one that might be closer.
This foundation is not drying, it provides I’d say medium coverage (I really don’t use a lot of foundation, so it might be high-coverage if you apply more product than I do). It really does look lovely on the skin, and I’m so happy I decided to try it out. The application can make a difference, so I use a beautyblender. I haven’t tried it with a brush so keep that in mind if you decide to try it out. I got the shade Classic Ivory.
This lightweight foundation mattifies and refines pores and leaves a natural, seamless finish.
The main reason I decided to get this bronzer was because Shay Mitchell (from Pretty Little Liars) mentioned it on her YouTube channel. She said a lot of makeup artists carry this one around (in this shade), and I decided to give it a go. As you might now, my all-time favorite bronzer is the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer, but this one is so good! They are quite different, so it is not to say one is better than the other, but I love how the Milani one bronzes up my skin. Bronzer is probably one of my favorite makeup products. I think it brings so much life to the face, and I’ve been using this one non-stop. This bronzer is not matte, it does have a bit of a shimmer to it, but it is very natural. Some people love a matte bronzer like Benefit’s Hoola, but I think adding a bit of extra glow never hurt anybody.
Let me start by saying that mascara is one of my favorite makeup products, but also one I am extremely picky about. Sometimes they are too liquidy, sometimes the applicator is weird, sometimes they’re too dry. I had never tried Essence makeup, I knew they were extremely affordable, but I’d never picked anything up. This mascara was recommended by Tati from GlamLifeGuru, and I really love her channel. The mascara is $4.99 which is AMAZING considering you’re supposed to switch it up every three months. It does exactly as it says, it lengthens and gives volume, the formula is just right, and it is just amazing. Comparing it to the fan-favorite L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise mascara, this one is a lot less messy. It is a plastic applicator so if that’s not your thing, this mascara is not for you. I very rarely have trouble using it, and I just love it.
Ever since I saw this on Maybelline’s Instagram, I knew I was going to love it. I am really hoping they make Taura a part of the permanent shade collection. It is definitely one of my favorite lipsticks. Maybelline lipsticks are great, there are a few collections that can be hit or miss, but this one is so creamy. This is not a matte lipstick, it doesn’t not dry fully, but that makes it comfortable to wear. The lip liner is also amazing. Since I am not sure how long the Gigi Hadid collection will be available, I recommend you pick this up ASAP. I’ve heard great things about the other shades as well. If this one is not for you, maybe one of the reds will catch your eye.
Another product that has been raved about across all social media platforms. I love a natural glow, and this is definitely it. There are four shades available and I thought Precious Petals was the one to fit me best. The formula is really nice. It is not super powdery, but it is also not too stiff. I’ve heard comments about not all shades being the same, so make sure you keep that in mind. Try to swatch them if possible and find what works best for you.
The silky smooth, highly-pigmented powder gives an all over glow when applied to the cheek bones, brow bone, and cupid’s bow.
I enjoyed sharing my favorite drugstore products. I think that affordable makeup can also be amazing makeup, and in some cases, even as good or better than high-end makeup. It is harder to find the right products, so use YouTube and social media to find the good ones. I find Instagram a great way to ask people about products they’ve tried. Make sure you set yourself the goal of trying more drugstore products in 2018. I know I am!
