In my lazy girl’s makeup routine, concealer is probably the stage of the routine that gives me the most trouble. Even when I only use the essentials, I always use concealer, even if I don’t use foundation. It is a super important step. Because it is so important, you’d think I’d have it down by now. But I don’t. It has been a long journey. Over the last couple of years, I have tried so many concealers and combinations of products to help my under eye be covered, but also, not look extremely dry at the end of the day.
Having dry skin means that hours after applying product, my skin is ready to be soaked in a pool of hyaluronic acid. The area where my dryness would be the most noticeable was always my under eye. This is my current concealer routine for smooth under eyes and the products that have helped me achieve the closest think to a healthy makeup look. Even eight hours later.
1. Milk Makeup Cooling Water Stick
I picked up this baby a couple of months ago. Walked into a Sephora in Boston, looking for something that would depuff my under eye, but that was quick and easy. Noticed a bunch of mini Milk Makeup sticks, this one included. While there is a full size version, I think this mini one is perfect for the under eye area.
After I finish my skincare routine, I apply a hydrating primer, and start my concealer routine. Starting with the Milk Makeup Cooling Water Stick. This not only helps to depuff the area, but also offers some added hydration before I apply concealer.
2. Becca Cosmetics Under Eye Brightening Corrector
The second step in my concealer routine for smooth under eyes is the Becca Cosmetics Under Eye Brightening Corrector. I picked this up after watching Samantha Ravendahl rave about it over and over again. The main reason why I wanted a corrector was because of the concealers that I have been leaning towards.
When applying the Under Eye Brightening Corrector, I use a tiny little bit and use my finger to tap it into the darker areas of my under eye. It does feel thick, but it does not make the area look cakey.
3. Glossier Stretch Concealer
I’ve talked about the Glossier Stretch Concealer in the past, but it really is the perfect last step in my concealer routine for a smooth under eye. The formula of this concealer is so dewy and hydrating. My favorite part is how it wears throughout the day. I have found that the thicker your makeup, the worse it will look as the hours go by.
While the Glossier Stretch Concealer has been my go-to recently, others I have enjoyed recently are the First Aid Beauty Bendy Avocado Concealer and the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Concealer. If you’d like to see full reviews on these, make sure to let me know in the comments!
4. Loose Setting Powder
The post-final step in my concealer routine is a loose setting powder. I rotate between three, but I use them in the exact same way. Using a brush, I pick up some of the product, tap the excess off, and then press the brush into the lid of the powder to push the product into the brush. Then, I gently apply it to my under eye.
Overall, finding the products that worked for me has been a journey. Remember that everyone is different and this is the concealer routine that has worked for me. Also, not everyone needs a full concealer routine. Depending on your skin type and how dark your under eyes are, you might be able to skip a couple of these steps.
