A new brand in town is Krave Beauty. I don’t know too much about it – it was started by a beauty influencer which is really cool. In addition, it is not only based on Korean beauty, but the products are actually made in Korea. As of right now, there are only a few products in the line. The Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser, Kale-Lalu-YAHA, Great Barrier Relief, and the Beet Shield. From this list, I have only tried two – Kale-Lalu-YAHA and the Beet Shield. In this post, I will be focusing on the Beet Shield, but if you’re interested in a review of the toner let me know!
What is The Beet Shield?
The Beet Shield is part of Krave’s Core Series. It protects the skin from harsh environmental stressors, including the sun. In Korea, the same product is known as Beet The Sun. With SPF 50, the Beet Shield is essential for EVERYONE and ANYONE. It is so important to have sunscreen in your skincare routine.
How Do You Use It?
Sunscreen should be the last step of your skincare routine. It is important to apply it at least 15 minutes before sun exposure. Personally, I apply it after my moisturizer and make sure to drag it down my neck and chest. I haven’t found that it interferes with the way my makeup looks or wears.
Stand Out Ingredients
Beetroot Extract: antioxidant-rich vegetable, prevents sign of aging, reduces pigmentation.
Allantoin: soothes skin and relieves skin irritation.
Vitamin C, Resveratrol, EGCG: group of antioxidants, shield skin from environmental stressors.
What I Think About The Beet Shield
For a long time, I looked for a sunscreen that did not have a silicone texture. Much like makeup primers, I hate the way products like the original Smashbox Photo Finish Primer feels. I had tried Supergoop’s Unseen sunscreen and did not like it for that reason. The Beet Shield feels and looks so creamy, like a moisturizer. I wouldn’t rely on this just for moisture, but it does have a similar consistency. In addition, it doesn’t have a strong SPF scent like the one you’d put on your body during a trip to the beach.
If you have seen pictures of it, it looks decent sized, but it is actually quite small. Cost-wise it is not expensive, but because it is a daily use product, I think they could make the packaging bigger, fit more product, and adjust price as needed. Krave products sell out FAST so it’d be nice having one that doesn’t finish up so quick.
Do You Need It?
If you don’t already have a sunscreen in your routine, YES. No questions asked. Get it. If you already have a sunscreen in your routine, do you like it? The Beet Shield does not leave a white cast, doesn’t smell like SPF, and it wears nicely with makeup. Krave even says you can skip primer and use the Beet as primer. The cute packaging is a huge plus. I definitely think the Beet Shield is worth it and I have enjoyed using it the last couple of months.
For those of you better-informed people out there, I thought it would be nice if I included the ingredients list here –
