Battle of the Sponges… And a Brush

I have recently been given the chance to try out different makeup applicators that I hadn’t tried before like Simple Glam Girls’ Oval Brushes and Base Beauty Diamond Blender. To this point, I was a loyal fan of the original Beauty Blender and I had tried the Real Techniques dupe but was unimpressed. In recent Instagrams and YouTube videos, I have seen a lot of people raving about the EcoTools Perfecting Blender Duo so I decided to try them out despite my disappointing experience with Real Techniques.

Here are my thoughts and my ranking for each of these sponges… and a brush,

1.The Original Beauty Blender

This is an all time favorite for everyone I think, it makes makeup application such a smooth process not just foundation, but also concealer, baking, blending, it has so many uses that it’s hard to really see the fault in it. There have been new variables to the original beauty blender providing more options, for example, I also own a tiny beauty blender that I use sometimes when applying concealer just to have a more controlled application and make sure I’m not just covering my entire face. This is a little pricier than most of these options, but if you take good care of it and wash it on a somewhat regular basis, there shouldn’t be the need to change it frequently.

2. EcoTools Perfecting Blender Duo

So happy I listen to the Instagram and YouTube Gods!! These are so amazing!! I love the shape as I’ve found it makes it so much easier to keep my concealer where it should go as I tend to spread it everywhere as I blend and no one wants that. I find myself using pretty much all its sides and it’s unbelievable how much these grow after you wet them. It’s amazing! My own downside with the Real Techniques was how stiff it was, unlike the original beauty blender but these are just as soft and smooshy so it really doesn’t feel like you’re hitting your face with a rock. If you don’t want to splurge, these are the most perfect dupe and I highly recommend them!

3. Base Beauty Diamond Blender

Since my last post was about this product, I won’t go too much into detail. I still find it hard to really blend my foundation out and I don’t see myself using it for anything other than foundation, like I do with the other two, but its claim to save product is true and I still think a combination of this and an actual sponge like the beauty blender are a great team!

4. Simple Glam Girls Oval Brushes – Previous Post on These

I wish I had the opportunity to try out some of the higher end oval brushes make up artists’ use on Instagram. Unfortunately, I really don’t have anything to compare these two, but I still haven’t been able to use them for anything other than my foundation. The big brush is great for that, it makes applying foundation a lot faster so if you’re in a rush this is perfect. I did wash it for the first time this weekend and I just feel like nothing happened, it still feels like it has product built up and it didn’t go back to its fluffy nature which was very disappointing. Since I don’t have anything to compare them to, it’s hard to say if that’s always the case (if you own any other brand of oval brushes, let me know how you care for them!)

Rating: 2/5

Final Thoughts: I definitely think the EcoTools Perfecting Blender Duo is a better investment than the original beauty blender. At around half the price of the beauty blender, EcoTools provides two different sized sponges that can be used for all sorts of makeup. They expand just as nicely and they’re just as soft. If you’re somewhere where they sell EcoTools I really encourage you to go out there and try these out!

If you have any recommendations that were not listed here, let me know! I’m always happy to do a round 2.
