5 Drugstore Brands To Start Your Makeup Collection

No one ever said you needed to be rich to start a makeup collection. In the last couple of years, drugstore brands have been stepping it up and creating amazing, quality products. In today’s post, I will be sharing my top five drugstore brands to start your makeup collection. If you love makeup, but don’t feel like splurging on higher end brands, this is the post for you.

Maybelline is probably an obvious one for most people when it comes to drugstore brands. In Colombia, this is one of the few drugstore brands that have been available for years so it is the brand I was most familiar with. I think I have tried Maybelline products in almost every makeup category. My personal favorites from this brand are mascara and foundation. I stopped purchasing high-end mascaras after trying Maybelline’s Lash Sensational and Big Shot Colossal mascara. These are two of my absolute favorites and would recommend them to anyone. As far as foundation, I love the Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation (review).

Pixi Beauty

This brand I love mainly for their skincare. I haven’t tried a lot of their makeup, but what I have tried I have loved. Their Glow Tonic is something I have been using in my skincare routine for a couple of years now. If you don’t have a tonic in your routine, I strongly recommend this one. Whenever I cleanse, no matter what I use or how many products, there always seems to be some residue, but my glow tonic takes care of removing the last bit of makeup and dirt that might be on my face. I’ve recently started using their new Rose Tonic and I also love it.

In terms of makeup, their new matte liquid lipsticks are amazing. When it comes to drugstore brands, some say Pixi is a bit too expensive but I think the products they have released are great quality.

Physicians Formula

It is no secret that everyone’s favorite bronzer is the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. Some makeup gurus and YouTubers even prefer this bronzer over some of their more higher-end products. It smells amazing, it looks beautiful on the skin, and it is so easy to work with. Personally, I love the entire Butter family including the blush and the highlighter. I also love their Healthy Lip Velvet Lipsticks. There have been some recent releases I haven’t had the chance to try yet, but I have seen a lot of people on social media rave about their Healthy Foundation.

I don’t own many products from this brand, but what I have tried, I have loved. My most recent find has been the Lumi Glotion and I am obsessed. It is basically a very luminizing moisturizer that you can use on its own or mix it in with your foundation. I love mixing it in with my IT Cosmetics CC Cream. It gives me a beautiful, glowing finish without making me look sweaty. I definitely recommend this if you’re looking to transition into a more glowy makeup look for the Spring and Summer months.

Much like L’Oreal, I haven’t tried much, but the few things I have tried have become staples in my routine. First, the Make It Last setting spray is amazing. This definitely makes your makeup last longer. The second product is their baked bronzer. I have the shade Soleil and I love it. I’ve heard from others that their baked blushes are amazing too.

The struggle with drugstore makeup is that there a lot of hits and misses within one same brand. That’s why Instagram beauty accounts, YouTubers, and beauty blogs are so important as they do the trial and error for you! Make sure you’re checking some of these out, as they’re the best at finding the great drugstore products that you need to try.
