Sometimes I’ve purchased products because they have been hyped up on social media and YouTube, and after trying them out, they are nothing like what I expected them to be. Today, I will be sharing with you some of the products I regret buying this year. Thankfully, there aren’t too many. I’ve gotten over my anxiety a bit and now I feel more comfortable returning products to Sephora and Ulta if they haven’t worked out for me. If you’re in the U.S. make sure you take advantage of that! Sephora and Ulta have amazing return policies that let you return makeup products even if you’ve used them. Remember that just because these products didn’t work for me doesn’t mean they’re not good products, but they might work for you and your skin type.
Who hasn’t heard about this product? It is everywhere!! It is considered a cult classic, but it didn’t work for me. I have dry skin and I find that this powder highlights dry texture. This will sound weird, but this powder looks like I have powder on my face. Makes sense? Setting powders should help you achieve a flawless look, not look like you have actual powder. I really wanted to love this, I felt like I had to love it, and I tried it over and over again, but it just doesn’t work on me. For my trip to Colombia I picked up the Rimmel London Stay Matte Pressed Powder and it has been amazing! Would definitely recommend that one.
Okay, so the product I regret buying is not the usual concealer, but they have a Brightener shade. The Brightener shade as the name says is supposed to work as a brightener, but this literally looks like blush. It is so so pink, it’s ridiculous. I honestly didn’t pay too much attention to the color of the product when I picked it up, I decided to believe the Brightening claim… Pay attention to the color of the product when you buy something!
This is one of those I picked up because it was getting hyped on social media. It just looked so cool, and I wanted it. The Shapeshifter palette is a contour palette. It has two sides, one for cream products and one for powder products. I honestly can’t say my thoughts about this palette only that I never reach for it. While I was deciding on the products to include here, I decided to try it out again and the contour shade just looked so patchy on me. The one pan I really do like is the powder highlight shade. Another con about this palette is that the pans are loose now, especially the powder ones, so they move around. Also, I regret buying this one because I feel like I don’t have the right brushes for cream contour and I really don’t want to have to buy some. Do you prefer powder or cream contour products?
I debated including this one because it is no longer available, but I had already taken the pictures sooo here it is! This is one of the first “palettes” Colourpop released, but I think it was just four of their single eyeshadows packaged together. Nothing like the palettes they do now. This palette came with four pinky shades, I have another one like this one that I really like, and I think it basically comes with the four shades you need for one eye look. One shade can work as transition, two darker shades to deepen your eye look, and a shimmer shade. I’ve used these shades with other palettes, but never on their own. It’s not that the quality of the shadows isn’t good, it’s just that the shades are not really what I reach for on a regular basis.
Another one of those Instagram products. This was everywhere! Everyone was opening and sharing their huge PR Packages, MAC really hyped this one up. I manly regret buying this one because I am pretty sure the MAC Cosmetics sales associate matched me wrong because the shade I actually was wasn’t available. She sold the shade Medium… If you go on the website, you’ll be able to see the shade Medium is pretty orange. Usually I am on the Light range of the spectrum. This looks like I gave myself the worst self-tan, Jersey Shore style. Maybe one day I’ll be able to tan and this will work one me.
These are the products I regretted buying this year, hopefully there will be a lot less next year! I’ve learned to really do my research before purchasing a product and thinking about how it will work on my skin. One of the things that has really helped is watching YouTubers who also have dry skin. Make sure you’re doing your research as well! Not only so that you don’t waste your money in products you won’t use, but it’s also wasteful.
