Current Hair Products + Keeping a Healthy Balayage

I believe taking care of my hair is just as important as taking care of my skin. Yes, I have dyed my hair multiple times before, not all of it, but since I was about 15 I’ve had highlights and I recently got a balayage, and when you do these things your hair gets fragile and it’s necessary to take even more care of it than before. In the picture above are the shampoo/conditioners I am currently using. I tend to change shampoo a lot – sometimes I don’t even make it through a bottle (don’t worry, I don’t throw it away, I just put it away and reuse later), because I feel like hair gets used to the effects of the product and it becomes less effective. Sooo this list changes a lot, but this is what I am currently using.

1. OGX Nourishing + Coconut Milk Shampoo and Conditioner

I have had a hard time loving OGX Shampoos. I get some dandruff here and there – not too much and nothing noticeable – and when I’m using other types of shampoos I don’t notice it as much. I’m not sure if it’s the sulfate in other shampoos or what it is about these ones, but it always comes back when I use OGX. I still love this shampoo and conditioner, the smell is amazing and it reminds me of vacationing at the beach. The product has coconut milk, coconut oil, and ultra whipped egg white proteins, and I think they really help keep my hair healthy.

2. Shimmer Lights Shampoo Blonde & Silver

One word: Amazing. Because my natural hair color is brown, and I’ve gotten a blonde-ashy balayage, I need a product that helps me prevent the yellowness that can happen weeks after a dyeing session. The bottle reads, “Color-enhancing shampoo brightens & refreshes blonde, highlighted, and silver hair,” and it does just that. I don’t use it very often, only once every couple of weeks, and when I do, I leave it on for about two minutes – just as you would leave the conditioner on when you’re showering.

left to right: OGX healing + vitamin E hydrating oil, Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil, Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder, Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray

These are other products I use to keep my hair healthy and to style sometimes. The most important one is OGX healing + vitamin E hydrating oil. I have been using this non-stop for the last couple of months. I apply a couple of drops to my hands, rub them together, and then start by applying it to the ends of my hair since this is the most damaged area and continue applying towards my roots. I don’t focus too much time on the roots because I don’t want my hair to go oily. The second oil I use is Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil. I first got this as a sample in my Birchbox subscription and LOVED it. I’m not sure what it is, but if I apply this on wet hair and let it air dry, or if I blow dry my hair, or straighten it, this product makes my hair feel so soft and smooth.

Dry shampoo is still a little bit of a mystery to me. I grew up washing my hair every single day. Still, to this day, the mornings when I don’t wash my hair I feel like I haven’t woken up yet. When I purchased the invisible oil, I looked into some other bumble and bumble products, and Pret-a-Powder had amazing reviews. It’s a texturizing dry shampoo and I love it. It adds texture and volume to my hair and also absorbs all the dirtiness and oiliness.

Last but not least, I also got this in my Birchbox, amika Bombshell Blowout Spray. I usually don’t blow dry my hair, whenever I do, it feels puffy and I hate it. Does anyone else have that feeling? So if I’m going to style my hair, I let it air dry and then I straighten or I curl it. The last time I dried my hair, I use both the Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil and amika’s Bombshell Blowout Spray. WOW. I don’t know which one it was or if it was teamwork, but I’ve never loved the feeling of my hair after blow drying so much until now.

Do you use any of these to take care of your hair? I am currently running out of my OGX Shampoo/Conditioner so if you have any recommendations, please leave a comment and don’t forget to like this post!

  • Thank @pixibeauty for the most beautiful package ♥️ The #pixibeauty #mattelastliquidlip is one of my favorite #mattelipstick formulas so you have no idea how excited I was when Pixi announced they were releasing new shades 🎉 And I was even MORE excited when this showed up at my door. I already owned the original shades so I gifted the extra ones to my friend (and #skincare queen 👑) @mod.young.
This formula is so lightweight, and not drying, and really, the only #matteliquidlipstick I use anymore. My favorite shade from this new release HAS to be #BerryBoost. The perfect shade for #fall🍁
  • Please ignore the disgusting stage of my #glossier #cloudpaints 🙈 But these are my go-to cream blushes (pretty much all the ones I own). I find that cream blushes can give the most natural, flushed look and I love that. The #cloudpaint is the one I have been using the longest but I think the @flowerbeauty #blushbomb color drops are VERY similar (and MORE affordable). My newest addition is the #lilahbeauty divine duo - again, gorgeous shade and amazing formula.
Do you like a cream blush? Or do you prefer a powder blush?

  • Showing you the various stages of this look from the final outcome to my very, very naked face from a couple of weeks ago. This week has been a test to my #confidence. I got a stye(eyelid pimple) on my left eye and I looked like I had been punched (according to me). This meant I couldn’t wear ANY eye makeup. While I preach that #beauty is not dependent on #makeup, I still felt very insecure not being able to put on mascara or eyeliner. We get used to seeing ourselves in a certain way, and when we don’t look like what we’re used to, it’s not necessarily a bad thing - but just different. In my mind, if I can see a “flaw,” everyone else can see it too. When the reality is they’re probably not even paying attention. •
Do you also get up close and personal with your mirror and wonder if others can see that tiny little mark on your cheek?
  • Nothing like #TextureTuesday and dipping into a brand new pot of @farmacybeauty #GreenClean. I had only tried one other balm before this one - and it hadn’t really been an enjoyable experience. I then got a mini somewhere and I am now the proud mother of this baby.
I love how well this removes my makeup. It is so effective and I find that I don’t have to use a lot of product. Usually I scoop some out and then start grabbing it with my fingers, but I always have some left over. If you’re in the market for a cleanser, I definitely recommend you give this one a chance. It won’t disappoint you!
  • Happy #MACMonday featuring my two newest addition to my humble @maccosmetics collection. I picked up two shades of their new #MACPowderKiss formula - Shocking Revelation (the more red/berry), and Burning Love (the deeper shade). I have yet to use them on my lips 👄 but I am very impressed by the formula! Have you tried these yet?
  • Nothing like having enough time to do a full face of makeup. Honestly, my most relaxing time is picking out what I’m going to use, playing some YouTube, and doing my makeup. Even when I don’t have plans of going anywhere 🙈 there are about 13 products here. How many are there in your #fullfacemakeup routine!?
